Would-be carjacker targets van one minute after it is left running
CCTV has captured a dramatic carjacking attempt which unfolded less than a minute after a driver left his vehicle unattended.
The video shows a 61-year-old man parking his white van on Gilbert Street, in the Melbourne suburb of Reservoir, at 6.19am today.
Leaving the engine running, he is out of his vehicle for just one minute when the offender is dropped off by a Toyota Kluger and jumps in the front seat of the van.
The victim is shown trying to cling onto the bonnet of his van as the robber reverses.
Other bystanders can be seen rushing to try and corner the offender, who makes his escape in the Toyota being driven by a female.
The would-be carjackers then crashed their Toyota into a parked vehicle, and remain on the run.
The victim was taken to hospital with head injuries, and is in a stable condition.
Investigations are ongoing.
