Woolworths drops prices on 'winter essentials' as families struggle with cost-of-living

Woolworths is lowering the prices of more than 450 "winter essentials" for three months as Australian families face the rising cost-of-living.

The promotion is said to be aimed to help customers save on the products they regularly buy over winter - including chicken, corned beef, soup and pasta - so they can feed their families more affordably.

"We know value is more important than ever," Woolworths managing director Natalie Davis said.

"We're dropping the prices on key staples and products we know our customers are buying this season to help their budgets go further."

The lowered prices, which will be available from Wednesday until August 22, represent an average discount of 19 per cent.

The sale comes after a report by Finder has revealed 43 per cent of Aussies now cite grocery shopping as one their top three "most stressful expenses"

The nation's cash rate is the highest it has been since April 2012.

Since the start of May 2022 - when interest rates were just 0.1 per cent - the average monthly repayment on a $600,000 loan has increased by $1351.
