'Don't tense, relax': Womans breasts 'juggled' by Sydney sonograher after ultrasound

A Sydney sonographer "juggled" a woman's breasts during an ultrasound appointment, a court has heard.

Samir Fahmy Ishak, 67, has pleaded not guilty to nine counts of aggravated indecent assault against five women during their ultrasounds with him at Sydney medical centres between 2011 and 2014.

As his trial opened on Wednesday, crown prosecutor David Scully told a Downing Centre District Court jury that the complainants would testify that Ishak fondled and inappropriately touched their genitalia, bottom and breasts when there was no clinical reason to do so.

Mr Scully said one woman would give evidence that after an ultrasound of her breasts to inspect a lump in November 2014, Ishak allegedly pulled on her nipples and then used both hands to "juggle" her breasts.

Another woman would tell the court, the prosecutor said, that she arrived to her appointment wearing a garment that was difficult to partially remove for her vaginal ultrasound, so Ishak told her: "Then go naked. Don't be shy, I'm a doctor."

Sonographers are not actually doctors, but technicians, Mr Scully told the court.

During the internal vaginal examination, Ishak kept one hand firmly pressed on the woman's vagina and began fondling her, he said.

"Don't tense, relax," were his alleged words to the woman.

Once the woman was fully dressed and about to leave, Ishak told her to come back in a month so he could check her breasts, and while saying this, started touching her breasts, Mr Scully said.
