Woman to replace Broad for Nats in Mallee

The Nationals have chosen a woman who founded a pregnancy support service to replace federal MP Andrew Broad, who fell from grace in a sugar daddy scandal.

Anne Webster was selected on Saturday as The Nationals' candidate for the Victorian seat of Mallee at the next federal election.

"I'm honoured to be chosen to represent our party at the next election," she said.

Dr Webster was selected from a field of six candidates at a party meeting in Birchip.

The Mildura-based woman founded Zoe Support Australia, a not-for-profit organisation to assist young mums through pregnancy, parenting and getting back into education.

"I will continue to be a strong advocate for my community and I am excited to take up the fight for the people of regional Victoria," she said in a statement after her selection.

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack tweeted on Saturday he was looking forward to working with Dr Webster over the coming months.

"A wonderful and proud community contributor who will be an outstanding candidate," he wrote.

The Nationals Victoria acting president Sheridan Bond said Dr Webster would be "an outstanding candidate and continue to maintain a strong voice for the region".

Dr Webster has been married for more than four decades and has three children.
