Woman stabbed to death in southwest Sydney

A woman has died after being found stabbed on a southwest Sydney street.

Police arrested a 49-year-old man, who they believe knew the woman, after they were called to Rawson Street in Auburn about 11:50pm on Tuesday and found her on the footpath with multiple stab wounds.

The woman was treated by ambulance paramedics and taken to Westmead Hospital, where she died.

Police have established a crime scene and are questioning the man at Flemington Police Station.
