Woman living in fear following estranged husband's two attempts to have her killed

Angie Donohue is a shattered woman, living in fear after her ex-husband Darryl Donohue launched an ongoing campaign to have her murdered.

After being imprisoned following his first attempt at hiring a hit man to have his estranged wife murdered in 2012, Ms Donohue thought she may finally be safe.

But not long into his four-year sentence, Mr Donohue tried a second time to have his estranged wife killed.

This time, from behind bars - allegedly offering one inmate $25,000 and lucky Keno numbers to another if they successfully killed her.

"I was frightened of him. I was terrified of him," Ms Donohue told A Current Affair.

"I think he is an evil man."

Police uncovered Mr Donohue's first attempt to have his wife killed after he slipped up during one of his many attempts to terrorise her - angry that she wouldn't let him see their son.

After smashing her brake light in a camera-filled undercover car park, Tasmania Police launched a major investigation.

Undercover police posed as a hit man and met Mr Donohue in a hotel room, where he offered an officer $10,000 to carry out the hit on his wife.

He was then arrested and taken into custody.

But Ms Donohue wasn't safe for long, with Mr Donohue approaching fellow inmates due for parole - offering them cash to kill not only his estranged wife, but her parents as well, when they got out of jail.

Luckily for Ms Donohue, one of the people her estranged husband approached in prison went straight to police after being released.

In February this year, Mr Donohue was again found guilty and sentenced to a further seven years behind bars.

"This guy obviously has major issues. I think the sentence should have been longer, because I suspect it will take us longer to deal with him," victims of crime advocate Howard Brown told A Current Affair.

Despite still living in fear, Mrs Donohue wants as many people as possible to hear her story and see her estranged husband's face - in case Darryl Donohue tries for a third time to get somebody to kill her.

"I never want anyone to go through something like that again. I don't want anyone else to sit there and be frightened to go and get help. Because there is help for you," Mrs Donohue said.
