Driver charged after Sydney woman dies in 'tragic accident' on the way to work

A driver has been charged after the death of a woman allegedly knocked over by her colleague's car on the way to work in Sydney's west.

Lilia Dizon, 69, was outside her home in Hebersham about 5am today when her colleague arrived to pick her up.

When Dizon went to get into the passenger side of the car, police believe the vehicle accidentally rolled back and knocked the 69-year-old onto the road where she hit her head and died.

"As the victim was getting into the car, the car door was left open, and the car reversed and the victim was driven back onto the roadway and her head struck the roadway," Inspector Wayne Kelly said.

"She suffered head and facial injuries."

The driver, a 61-year-old woman, was arrested and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

She was charged with negligent driving occasioning death and by negligent act cause grievous bodily harm.

She was granted bail to appear in court on November 23.

Dizon's siblings arrived at the family home of 20 years, shattered by the incident.

"When I arrived there, we all cried together," her brother Manual Giron said.

9News understands Dizon and the driver had known each other for years and worked together.
