Woman 'shot partner dead metres from young child'
A Gold Coast woman has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting her partner dead just metres from a young child this morning.
Pania Lawrence, 39, is accused of calling Triple Zero moments after pulling the trigger on her 46-year-old partner of six months.
Emergency services located the man suffering a single gunshot wound inside the home on Waverly Street, Southport, just after 2am..
Paramedics did their best to treat the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ms Lawrence was taken into custody at the Southport Watchhouse, and has since been charged with murder and being in possession of a category H weapon.
She is expected to face the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow morning, police said in a statement at 7.45pm.
Police are also speaking with two adults who were at the home last night, who will be considered key witnesses in the man’s death.
9NEWS also understands a child was asleep just metres from where the incident occurred.
Neighbours earlier revealed a number of children live at the home.
"Fair few kids actually... People out the back also have a trailer and they're full of kids as well," a neighbour named Daniel told 9NEWS.
"There's always a bit of commotion around here, it is Southport. But nah, not really from there. They're pretty good over there."
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
