A woman has cuts to her face and body after she fought off two men who grabbed her and tried to drag her into the bushes of a south Sydney park.

The 20-year-old woman had left Banksia train station and was walking in nearby Gardiners Park when she was attacked about 11.30pm yesterday, police said.

Two men approached her from behind, with one of them grabbing her while the other slashed at her with a weapon thought to be a knife.

They then pushed her to the ground and tried to drag her towards some trees, but she fought them off and ran away.

Police and paramedics were called and the woman was taken to St George Hospital with minor cuts to her face, body, arms and legs.

Detectives have launched an investigation. There is no further description of the men available at this stage, police said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
