Brisbane rower Caroline Davis killed on birthday after being hit by ute

A talented rower has been remembered as a "vivacious and energetic" person, after she was tragically struck by a ute while jogging on her birthday in Brisbane.

Caroline Davis, who had just turned 33, was rushed to hospital after she was hit at an intersection of Honour Avenue and Bridge Street at Chelmer about 7am yesterday. 

She suffered critical head injuries and died in the Princess Alexandra Hospital several hours later. 

Ms David aunty Di Ball has remembered her as a "beautiful, talented niece and goddaughter".

"We are devastated," she said.

Brisbane GPS Rowing Club chairman Ian Holzberger took to Facebook to remember "Caz". 

“Let us all respect Caz for what she brought to the rowing community in general and our club in particular by remembering her as a bright, funny, energetic, vivacious lady who added tremendously to our sport," he wrote. 

Ms Davis was on foot when the tragic incident occurred yesterday. 

Acting Inspector Mark Bradford told 9NEWS the driver of the ute was also a young woman.

She tested negative for drugs and alcohol.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
