Woman dead in Melbourne car crash

A woman is dead after the car she was a passenger in veered off a Melbourne road and hit a tree.
The woman, who has yet to be identified, died at the scene, while the male driver was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Police believe the Ford Falcon was travelling north along Fitzgerald Rd in Laverton North at 4.40am on Friday when the driver, believed to be aged in his 20s, lost control of the car.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses to the crash.
