Woman dead after being hit by train in western Sydney

A woman has died and a child is seriously injured after being hit by a train in western Sydney.

Police were called to Harris Park train station just after 2:00pm today after reports the woman had jumped in front of an approaching train while holding the child.

The woman died at the scene.

The young female has been taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

No other information on the woman and the child has been released.

Commuters on the T5 Cumberland Line have been warned to expect delays.
