Woman cried for 'three solid minutes' after strangers found missing wedding ring in Simpson Desert

A New South Wales woman said she was reduced to tears after a wedding ring lost during a visit to Simpson Desert back in June was miraculously found by strangers months later.

An image of the ruby and diamond ring was posted to Facebook by ABC Western Queensland on Tuesday and shared thousands of times, eventually finding its way back to its owner through a notification from a family member.

Kandos resident and mum-to-be Elizabeth Docherty, who lost the ring after climbing a sand dune to take photographs during her “babymoon”, said she cried for “three solid minutes” after seeing a photo of the ring online.

"I can't even fathom that someone has found it, let alone handed it in,” she told the ABC.

“It was amazing to see.”

Mrs Docherty said she is currently waiting for the ring’s return from the police officers in the remote Queensland town of Birdsville.

A photo taken at the bottom of the “Big Red” dune shows Mrs Docherty wearing an identical ring.

With her first child due in September, Mrs Docherty said the timing of the discovery couldn’t be any better.

"I'm just thrilled — it couldn't have come at a better time,” she said.
