Woman arrested after allegedly driving six times over limit with child in car

A woman has been charged with high-range drink driving after she allegedly blew a breath test almost six times over the legal limit with a child in the car.

Just after 11am today, police responded to reports of a minor two-car crash on Oxley Highway near the intersection with Lake Road at Port Macquarie.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to the driver of one of the vehicles – a 36-year-old woman – and subjected her to a breath test, which returned a positive result.

The woman, who was driving with a seven-year-old child in the passenger seat, was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station.

She allegedly blew a reading of 0.293, almost six times the legal limit.

She was given a court date and her license was suspended. She will appear at Port Macquarie Local Court on Wednesday, July 14.

The child was returned to the care of family members. Family and Community Services have been notified.
