Police search for man who attacked 69-year-old woman in her northern NSW unit

A 69-year-old woman was dragged from her bed and assaulted in Tweed Heads by an early morning intruder.

At 5.15am yesterday, the woman heard a loud noise from the lounge room of her Adelaide Street unit.

After entering the bedroom the male demanded the woman get out of bed, before dragging her across the room and allegedly striking her in the face.

The woman told him that she had no money and went to her handbag and handed over a small amount of cash.

After fleeing through the front door of the unit with the cash, the male was followed by the woman to the garbage bin area before he fled on foot.

He then fled from the area on foot. The woman suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault.

The has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, young with a slim build and of average height.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark chequered hoodie which covered his head and face.
