Woman in serious but stable condition after being hit by car in Wollongong

A 26-year-old woman remains in a serious but stable condition after being hit by a car in Unanderra, south-west of Wollongong, last night.

Emergency services were called to Cook Street just after 6pm to reports the woman had been hit by a Holden Commodore.

She was airlifted to St George Hospital with life-threatening injuries to her chest, head and abdomen.

Her condition was later downgraded to serious but stable.

The driver of the car was taken to Wollongong Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established at the area.

The area was closed to traffic as she was transported to the rescue chopper.
