Pregnant woman assaulted during public rampage in Wollongong

A heavily pregnant woman has been assaulted during a random attack south of Sydney yesterday.

About 11.45am yesterday, officers were patrolling Corrimal Street, Wollongong, when they came across a man allegedly punching members of the public.

The man allegedly approached a woman – who is seven months pregnant – and deliberately barged into her and knocking her into a fence.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

A 46-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wollongong Hospital for assessment, before being taken to the police station, where he was charged with common assault.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Wollongong Local Court today.
