Wolf breaks Frozen's No 1 run

Despite its R18+ rating, The Wolf Of Wall Street has been the first film to break Frozen's No 1 winning streak at the Australian box office over the weekend.

Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Australia's Margot Robbie, The Wolf Of Wall Street was true to its tale and raked in the cash - $5.137 million to be exact - in Aussie cinemas over the weekend.

According to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia, Disney's family animation Frozen slipped into second spot, pushing The Book Thief, which stars Australian actor Geoffrey Rush, into third.

Another Disney flick, Saving Mr Banks, about how Walt Disney (played by Tom Hanks) turned Mary Poppins into a film, remained steady in fourth.

Spin-off horror movie Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones debuted in fifth place, while action films Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and 47 Ronin both fell three spots, to No 6 and No 8 respectively.

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug, slid one spot from last weekend to be in seventh position, while animated movie Free Birds fell two places to No 9.

Rounding out the ladder was Oscar-nominated drama Philomena, starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, which came in at No 10.
