Winter is coming. Again. Sydney braces for more icy weather

Just when you thought the “Antarctic blast” was over – another cold front is on its way, with temperatures in Sydney expected to plummet as alpine regions experience another snow dump.

The cold snap will hit Sydney on Sunday, with 20-30km/h winds expected to bring temperatures down to about nine degrees, according to the Bureau of Meteorology’s forecast.

Richmond and other areas in Sydney’s west can look forward to temperatures as low as two degrees.

Sydney will continue to shiver as next week starts, with the BoM predicting minimums of six degrees for both Monday and Tuesday, along with possible showers and 20-30km/h gusts.

For those in Sydney’s west, the message is rug up next week. A low of three degrees is predicted for Penrith on Monday, complete with icy winds and possible showers.

Ski resorts in southern NSW are set to benefit from the cold weather, with 20-40cm of snow predicted for Sunday as blizzard-like conditions hit the area.

The cold weather is caused by a low pressure trough moving along the eastern NSW and south-eastern Queensland regions.

Winter still has another month to go, but there is some good news, with the BoM predicting another two days of warmth before Sunday’s arctic conditions move in.

Daytime temperatures in Sydney are expected to rise to 19 degrees tomorrow and the entire state looks set for fine conditions.
