Wild winds, severe thunderstorms to batter north west South Australia

Damaging winds of up to 96km/h are set to batter parts of north west South Australia as severe thunderstorms roll in.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms for the North West Pastoral and parts of the North East Pastoral districts.

Wild weather is already buffeting the area with winds reaching up to 96km/h around the Moomba area.

The towns of Marla, Coober Pedy, Roxby Downs, Moomba and Oodnadatta are also expected to be hit this afternoon.

The State Emergency Service has urged residents to secure all unsecured items and stay indoors.
