Whitsundays man charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing arrows at police

A 44-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing arrows at police during a welfare check at the Whitsundays last week.

Police attended a Jubilee Pocket unit complex on Thursday to check on a man. Soon after, an emergency declaration was issued for the area.

After four days of negotiations, the man was arrested yesterday morning.

After arriving at the unit complex on Thursday afternoon, police say the man barricaded himself inside, armed with a compound bow.

Police allege the man shot at officers, who managed to avoid them and escape unharmed, however some of the arrows damaged police cars.

The 44-year-old man has been charged with six counts of attempted murder and two counts of wilful damage to police property.

He is expected to appear before the court today.
