One dead after out-of-control car slams into tree on Mornington Peninsula

A man is dead after his car crashed into a tree on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula.

Police believe the man was driving along White Hill Rd at Red Hill when he lost control and struck a tree shortly before 11pm last night.

The man, who was the only person in the car, died at the scene.

The exact cause of the crash is not yet known.
