Wheelchair user forced to sit at back after paying top dollar for Pink concert ticket

A Burleigh Waters man thrown out of a Pink concert in Sydney on Saturday night says he was just standing up for the rights of his disabled friend.

Bert Hibbert was accompanying his mate Marlena Katene, who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair.

They each paid $254 for the VIP experience, near the front of the stage.

But before the concert things turned ugly when security confronted them and said "no wheelchairs are allowed on the floor".

"They used bullying tactics, intimidation and the police were called," Mr Hibbert said.

"We weren’t after any favours, we didn’t want any preferential treatment, we just wanted the experience we’d paid for."

Mr Hibbert challenged the officers to show him the written policy stating wheelchairs were not allowed in the General Admission Standing area.

After a lengthy exchange, Mr Hibbert was escorted out of the Qudos Bank arena.

Ms Katene was allowed to stay up the back with two ushers, a metre from a staircase.

"I felt frustrated and alone when I wasn’t allowed to mix with the others," Ms Katene said.

In a statement, Qudos Bank Arena said: "We have a duty of care to Ms Katene as well as all other patrons to ensure a safe event for all."

"We've had a long history of trying to accommodate her requests."

The pair have been offered a full refund.

As yet, there has been no response from Pink.
