What's in a name for politicians?

You could be forgiven for thinking you were seeing double in the new federal parliament.

Learning the names and faces of new MPs is always a challenge for parliamentary staff, security guards and reporters.

And, with one-in-four House of Representatives seats taken up by newbies, the 45th parliament presents a special challenge.

Coming down to Canberra from Queensland for the first time in August are coalition MPs Mr O'Brien and Mr O'Brien.

That's Ted O'Brien from Fairfax and Llew O'Brien from Wide Bay.

On the opposition benches Ms King will join shadow minister Ms King while Mr Mitchell will take up a backbench spot alongside Mr Mitchell.

The new faces belong to Madeleine King, from the West Australian electorate of Brand, and Brian Mitchell from Tasmania's seat of Lyons.

They join health spokeswoman Catherine King and Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell.

And none of them is the Member for Mitchell - that's Liberal MP Alex Hawke.

Hopefully it will be easier to tell Mr Wilson and Mr Wilson apart.

Former human rights commissioner Tim Wilson represents the Liberals in Goldstein while Josh Wilson is Labor's man in Fremantle.

Of course, some name confusion in the lower house is nothing new.

For the past six years there have been two K Andrews on the coalition benches: Kevin and Karen.

At least we know the 45th parliament will have a Hart - Ross Hart, member for Bass.
