Wet 'n' Wild ticket-holders to be refunded

Disgruntled ticket-holders for a cancelled New Year's Eve festival at the recently opened Wet `n' Wild theme park will be given a refund, with a replacement event not going ahead.

The festival was cancelled just six hours before it was due to start on New Year's Eve, with the organisers, One Cube Entertainment, citing technical issues.

They promised an "even better" event would instead take place on Australia Day, but that is now not going ahead, Wet `n' Wild management said.

Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe said on Friday consumers affected by the cancellation would be refunded by the two main ticket sellers, Moshtix and MyGuestList.

He said One Cube Entertainment was also working with the other mini-promoters to fast-track their ticket refunds.

"It could take several days to process refunds on tickets sold by the mini-promoters," he said in a statement.

Fair Trading had held further discussions with the promoters on Thursday to seek assurances that all consumers would be refunded as quickly as possible, he said.

The last-minute cancellation prompted criticism of the management of the theme park, which opened in western Sydney in December.

Ticket-holders took to social media complaining they had not been able to get in contact with the venue after the cancellation was announced on Facebook.

It is unclear why the proposed Australia Day event will not go ahead.

According to Fairfax Media, One Cube was incorporated only four months ago.

Fairfax reported on Friday that while One Cube's four Sydney directors - Eric Woo, Ruchita Perera, Nikola Alavanja and Diego Tobar - all had experience organising club nights at Sydney venues, none appeared to have put on anything on the scale of the New Year's Eve event.

Woo and Perera are partners in tour and promotion company Urban Agent, which faced a social media backlash in 2013 over Bollywood concert Temptation Reloaded. Concert-goers were left fuming over late-running performances, ticket prices and promised access to show's main star Sharukh Khan.

According to Fairfax, a petition signed by nearly 200 at the time urged Urban Agent to reimburse ticket holders.

AAP has sought comment from Village Roadshow Theme Parks over why it decided to let out its venue on such a high-profile night to the festival promoters.
