Western Power looking for love on Valentine's Day

The Electrical Trade Union has released a spoof on the traditional Valentine's Day message in a video and Tinder campaign rallying against power privatisation in Western Australia.

WA Premier Colin Barnett has proposed a 51-percent sale of Western Power, with the remaining 49-percent to be publicly listed, if is government his re-elected on March 11.

But the proposal has been met with fierce backlash from the ETU and the union has been actively campaigning against the privatisation push.

In the video released on YouTube yesterday, a selected group of Western Australians declare their love for the state-owned power company.

The video starts with a title card that reads: "The Power of Love".

"This is a message for someone very special," a man says, looking down the barrel of the camera.

"You brought life into my life when all there was was darkness," a man wearing King Gee workwear adds.

"When the nights were cold, you kept me warm and I will never, ever let anyone take you away from me," a woman says.

"And I will never, ever let anyone take you away from me," another man says.

They then declare their love specifically for Western Power and vow not to let anyone ever take the company away from them.

In addition to the video, the union also sought to seek the acceptance of single Western Australians with the profile of 33-year-old 'Western'.

"Loving, caring state-owned electricity network facing possible disastrous break-up," the profile read.

"I'll keep you warm, light up your life and restore your faith in the power of love."
