Weather will hurt WA firefighters battling blazes: deputy commissioner

The fire that destroyed one home at Waroona in Western Australia is under control after a massive effort, but authorities are still concerned about other blazes in the state.

DFES deputy commissioner Lloyd Bailey said the crews were worried about a number of fires, some of which threatened homes.

The Waroona fire was eventually brought under control thanks to the efforts of about 2000 firefighters, both professionals and volunteers.

Inclement weather is set to hamper firefighting efforts in coming days, with rain and storms set to hammer parts of the state until Wednesday, according to forecasts.
