Weet-Bix promotional spoons recalled over choking hazard fears

Wooden spoons given to winners of a Weet-Bix promotional competition have been recalled over fears the products could be a choking hazard for children.

The products, sent to winners of the 'Weet-Bix Little Kids Essentials Bowl Giveaway' promotion have the potential to break in two.

The separated tip and handle are feared to be a danger to children.

"If the tip separates from the handle, it can pose a choking hazard for young children, which can lead to severe injury or death," Product Safety Australia (PSA) said.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the spoon and place it in a safe and secure spot that is not accessible by children."

According to PSA, a new silicon spoon will be sent to people as a replacement, as well as a reply-paid satchel and a direction to return the original item.

The spoons were distributed across the country early this year between May 18 and May 25.

The incident comes after a number of sleep and respiratory care products were recalled over safety concerns yesterday.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) issued a product defect correction for several Philips Electronics CPAP, Bi-Level PAP devices and ventilator devices.

The sound abatement foam used in the devices may "degrade and be ingested or inhaled" by the user, the TGA said.

Earlier this month, a brand of ice cream is was also recalled across five states after food authorities were warned that rubber could be found inside.
