Eight days of heavy rain set to hit NSW

Heavy rainfall and flash flooding are forecast across New South Wales over the next eight days.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) said there will be severe thunderstorms in some parts of the state which could lead to flash flooding.

Storms are set to hit NSW tomorrow.

"Wednesday and Thursday will see the potential for severe thunderstorms through the west of the state," Meteorologist Hugh McDowell said.

Mr McDowell said tomorrow could be the wettest day recorded in parts of western NSW since September 2020.

The state could see up to a month's worth of rain tomorrow.

The heavy rainfall could also lead to flash flooding in parts of NSW.

"Due to high levels of moisture in the atmosphere there is an increased risk of heavy rainfall that will result in flash flooding and may result in some roads to become blocked and inaccessible," he said.

The BoM has also warned there could be damaging winds in far west NSW tomorrow along with the heavy rainfall.

More severe thunderstorms are also forecast on Thursday.

"Thunderstorms over the inland may again be possibly severe on Thursday," Mr McDowell said.

Showers are expected to ease on the east coast on Friday but further rain is forecast on Sunday and Monday.

NSW residents are being urged to prepare for the wild weather.
