Weather forecasts getting more accurate

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting the weather more accurately than ever - and it reckons it will get even better.

In 2015-16, 88 per cent of the bureau's one-day maximum temperature forecasts were considered accurate - that is, within two degrees of the observed temperature.

That's up from 83 per cent in 2006, thanks to improved understanding of the atmosphere, forecast models, increased observations and upgraded computers, the bureau said in its latest annual report.
