Water taxi skipper on drink driving charge

A Sydney Harbour water taxi skipper seen bumping his boat into a wharf has been charged with navigating a commercial vessel under the influence of alcohol.

Police allege the 10-metre vessel hit the wharf at the southern end of Woolloomooloo Bay a few times while trying to berth about 10.30pm (AEDT) on Monday.

Police were called by concerned onlookers and breath tested the skipper who allegedly returned a positive reading.

The 42-year-old from the Northern Territory later returned a positive breath analysis of 0.188.

He was charged with navigating with high range PCA whilst driving a commercial vessel and was granted conditional bail to appear in Balmain Local Court on February 5.
