Water has gushed on to a south-east Melbourne street after a car crashed into a fire hydrant this morning.

Country Fire Authority crews were called to the crash and burst water main on Lonsdale Street in Dandenong about 7.20am AEDT.

The water was continuing to flood a Holden Dealership behind the hydrant about 8.45am AEDT, hitting powerlines as it shot out from the water main.

Authorities are working to switch off the water, and paramedics have treated one person for minor injuries.

All lanes in the street are open, but drivers are advised to avoid Ordish Road after earlier closures caused traffic to back.
