Water filmed gushing into Victoria’s City Loop during last week’s storms

Metro Trains Melbourne has faced questions after footage emerged of water pouring into the City Loop during last week’s heavy downpour.

9NEWS understands the video was filmed by a train driver roughly 200 metres from Parliament station at the Clifton Hill loop.

The footage of the steady flow of water gushing into the City Loop comes four years after Metro initiated plans to inject the walls of the City Loop with sealant, in a bid to prevent corrosion of the walls.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said the leak was in fact a “normal drainage process”.

“The drainage that people witnessed is the normal proper drainage process, the way the system should actually work,” Mr Andrews said.

However, Opposition Leader Matthey Guy today expressed concern over the leak, saying  it could be indicative of a bigger problem.

“If I was a train driver seeing that I would be just as concerned as anyone else, Metro have got to give some assurances that it is safe,” he said.

Metro today released a statement saying it has “no concerns” of the water leakage captured in the video.

“Metro closely monitors and regularly maintains the City Loop infrastructure and has no concerns for the water leakage depicted in the video,” it said in a statement.
