A couple driving through suburban Perth has filmed AFL's fallen star Ben Cousins allegedly leading police on a pursuit.

Late last night, Cousins allegedly went through several red lights at low speed, due to a "family emergency".

The police car is seen following what has been alleged as Cousins' car, in a slow moving convoy.

The couple filming the chase can be heard running a colourful commentary on the driving style.

"They (police) were high beaming him and trying to pass the side of him. It's like he didn't want them to see who was driving," the passenger said.

"They probably want is to pull over, but we ain't gonna 'cos this is way too much fun."

In what is far from Cousins' first brush with the law, police said: "Police observed a vehicle travelling erratically...It is alleged the driver did not stop when requested to do so."

The pursuit did eventually end and now Cousins faces charges including reckless driving, failure to stop and failure to provide a breath test.

It's not a new scenario for Cousins - in 2006 he ran away from a booze bus - which cost him a fine and his position as West Coast captain.

Later that year he was arrested after being found drunk outside Crown.

A positive drug test led to his admission to drug rehabilitation, something he's done several times here and overseas.

In 2012, he was arrested in WA for possession of methamphetamines, and later that year, cannabis.

Cousins will appear in Perth Magistrate's court next month.
