Girl dead, parents critical, after crash near Oakey in Queensland

A young girl has died in a three-vehicle crash on the Warrego Highway near Oakey.

9NEWS understands a ute was travelling on the highway towards Toowoomba at 9.20am and was trying to turn right when a truck was unable to stop and hit it from behind.

The ute collided with an SUV which was coming in the opposite direction.

A young girl travelling in the SUV was killed.

Her mother was taken to Toowoomba Hospital in a critical condition and her father is in an induced coma at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

The impact destroyed their car and tore the tray off the ute.

The drivers of the ute and truck suffered minor injuries.

It’s unknown why the truck was unable to stop in time before hitting the ute. Dashcam footage is expected to form part of the investigation.
