War medals, wedding rings stolen

Thieves have taken war medals and wedding rings during a spate of home burglaries in a Victorian town.

The residential break-ins occurred during the past two months and across five central streets in Colac, southwest of Melbourne, police say.

Electrical goods have also been stolen but police say the thieves targeted valuable keepsakes including wedding rings, gold necklaces, watches and pearl brooches.

In one home, they stole World War I and II medals belonging to a man and his father.

One of the distinctive medals was issued by the Malaya government.
