A NSW man has been charged after two alleged acts of animal cruelty near Wagga Wagga.

Police allege the man tied a horse to the back of his car and drove off on Thursday at about 10pm, before it fell and sustained serious injuries. The animal later died.

The next day, the man allegedly returned to the property to transport a second horse from the same property.

After walking the animal behind the car for a number of kilometres, police allege the man tied the horse to a tree by the roadside and drove away.

A 35-year-old man was charged with animal cruelty offences and is expected to appear in court in September.
