$169 million WACA upgrade to give fans coolest place to watch the cricket

The WACA Ground is midway through the biggest redevelopment in its 131-year history, with a new pool set to offer fans the coolest place to watch the cricket.

The $169 million project promises an array of world-class facilities, including a high-performance cricket centre, museum, cafe, gym, and the six-lane, 50-metre swimming pool.

"It's going to be one of the greatest sporting complexes in Australian sport and to have that at our doorstep, that's going to be huge… we're going to become better cricketers," current WA cricketer and former Test all-rounder Hilton Cartwright said.

The swimming pool proposal was initially rejected by the City of Perth Council before getting the green light. 

Wrapped around one of the WACA Ground's landmark light towers, the pool will feature two water slides imported from Turkey and an all-abilities splash pad.

"We want this ground to be inclusive and just a great place for everyone," WA Cricket CEO Justin Michael said.

The swimming pool is set to be completed by September next year.
