WA woman loses hand in croc attack

A woman has lost her hand after being attacked by a crocodile in a remote town in Western Australia's Kimberley region.

The woman, aged in her 60s, was attacked at the Three Mile Creek in Wyndham about 2.30pm (WADT), ABC News reports.

She was taken to Wyndham Hospital before being flown to Darwin for emergency treatment.

The woman is in a stable condition.

Police tracked down the crocodile and cordoned off the area but lost sight of the reptile.

Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPAW) staff said they were trying to locate the predator and destroy it.

If they are unsuccessful the wildlife workers will lay traps to capture the crocodile.

The attacks comes on day after a 25-year-old Kununurra woman was bitten by a freshwater crocodile at a nearby Wyndham swimming hole.

The woman escaped with only minor injuries.
