Woman dies in hospital after Perth siege

A woman has died and her partner remains under police guard in hospital after a siege at a semi-rural home in Perth that lasted several hours.

Police were called to a property on Douglas Road in Martin on Monday morning to assist a locksmith and Sheriff's Office representative, who was reportedly there to repossess the home.

But the couple, aged in their 60s, allegedly made threats, so the surrounding area was cordoned off for public safety, with the tactical response group, paramedics and firefighters sent to the scene.

The siege ended about five hours later when police fired a non-lethal "beanbag" round at the man and the couple was arrested.

Paramedics rushed the woman to Royal Perth Hospital, where she died later that night.

Police have not confirmed media reports that she suffered cardiac arrest, but say her death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The man could still face charges.
