Western Australia's southwest is bracing for a wintry weekend, with a cold front to deliver heavy rains and strong winds to the region.

Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Karina Tarbath says people between Mandurah, Collie and Windy Harbour can expect the wettest conditions with up to 80mm expected in some areas on Saturday.

Higher than normal tides are also forecast in the Geographe Bay region and a flood warning has been issued for people in the southwest and lower southwest.

Temperatures in Perth are forecast to peak at 20C with a chance of thunderstorms and gusty winds.

While the worst of the weather is expected to arrive on Saturday and continue into early Sunday, showers and low temperatures are also likely next week.
