Wild weather batters WA's south

Thunder and lightning have not frightened away enthusiastic surfers at Perth's Cottesloe Beach.

Western Australia's south has been battered by wintry weather over the weekend, and there has been more than 30mm of rain dumped on the capital city since 9am on Sunday.

Some areas in the southwest region near Margaret River have received up to 80mm since Saturday.

Strong winds on the coast brought down a lamp pole at Cottesloe Beach but the rough conditions didn't keep away the surf fanatics.

Those who braved a trip to the peak of the groyne were treated to a close encounter with the choppy waves and got as wet as those in the water.

A wind warning has been issued for parts of WA's south coast including Perth, Lancelin, Bunbury, Leeuwin, Esperance and Eucla.

A flood warning has also been issued for the state's south west district.

Showers are forecast to continue into Monday but will clear by early next week.
