Health authorities racing to find source of infection in WA's south-west

Health authorities are racing to trace a mystery infection in Bunbury in Western Australia's south-west.

It is the first COVID-19 case to hit the region as Omicron spreads across the state.

Dozens of exposure sites that have been listed across the south-west over the last few weeks have all been linked to travellers, however this is the first detected COVID-19 case from the region.

At this stage, contact tracers don't know how the person contracted the virus.

Authorities said the person had spent time in the Bunbury community while they were infectious.

So far there has been one exposure site linked to the new case: Jo's Curry House on Wittenoom St between 5.45pm and 8pm on Thursday.

Visitors at those times are required to test and isolate until negative, unless directly advised otherwise by the Department of Health.

Health authorities are asking anyone with symptoms to get tested.
