Crews control major WA bushfire

A bushfire near the Wedge Island and Grey settlements on the West Australian coast has been controlled.

The DFES had issued a watch-and-act message on Saturday for people in the southwestern part of Dandaragan, but by 3pm had downgraded the fire to advice level.

"The alert level for this fire has been downgraded due to favourable weather conditions," the DFES said on Saturday.

"Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes."

The main fire, which started on Australia Day (Tuesday), has burnt 21,000 hectares.

Residents are warned to stay alert, monitor their surroundings and watch for flames or smoke in case conditions change again.
