WA unions scathing of cuts, 'fire sale'

Health and education unions have heaped criticism on the West Australian government over public sector cuts in the 2014-16 budget and the "fire sale" of assets.

But the proposed privatisation of Fremantle Port has been welcomed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which believes a private operator will do a better job managing it.

Social justice organisations have also welcomed an increase in disability services funding and the introduction of a no-fault catastrophic injury vehicle insurance scheme, but are concerned about how it will be implemented.

Opposition leader Mark McGowan said Treasurer Mike Nahan had delivered WA's worst ever budget.

He labelled the state government's privatisation program a panicked fire sale of broken promises.

"Colin Barnett has blown the books and he's making you and your family pay for it," Mr McGowan said.
