WA top cop quashes rumours about future

West Australian Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan has quashed the rumour that he has extended his contract for another two years.

A rumour segment on Fairfax Radio suggested on Thursday that Mr O'Callaghan had signed a two-year-contract, but the commissioner was quick to hose down any speculation.

"I've not signed a contract and I've not been offered one," he said.

Mr O'Callaghan's contract will not expire until August next year and he says he is not worrying about re-signing yet.

"I've got too many things to worry about," he said.

The commissioner said he was still enjoying the job, especially with the policing reforms underway.

Mr O'Callaghan joined the force as a 17-year-old cadet in 1973 and has been the WA police commissioner since 2004.
