West Australian teachers have accepted the state government's pay rise offer, with the education minister labelling the deal a win for common sense and financial responsibility.

Wages will increase by 2.75 per cent, 2.5 per cent and 2.5 per cent over three years.

The State School Teachers Union had sought a 12 per cent increase over the same period, but the government vowed to cap wage rises at the rate of inflation.

Commerce Minister Michael Mischin said the deal had to be economically sustainable, given the financial challenges facing the state.

"This agreement will ensure Western Australian teachers and principals remain among the highest paid in Australia," Mr Mischin said.

Education Minister Peter Collier said the deal was fair and reasonable.
