WA's Kimberley region gets bushfire ready

Tourists and residents in Western Australia's Kimberley region are being warned to prepare for the bushfire season with vegetation drying out earlier than usual.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services says residents must have a survival plan and prepare properties by clearing anything around the house that can burn, while tourists must familiarise themselves with the bushfire warning system.

Last year, firefighters responded to 585 bushfires in the Kimberley, 10 of which were caused by weather conditions, 51 were accidental, 207 were undetermined, and 317 were either deliberately lit or suspicious.
