WA road confusion slows emergency response

Driver confusion is affecting the response times of emergency vehicles in Western Australia, according to Road Safety minister Liza Harvey.

Ms Harvey urged WA drivers to familiarise themselves with the correct road procedures when giving way to emergency vehicles, and warned of an increase in police, ambulance and fire vehicle movements heading into summer.

It coincides with the release of a Road Safety Commission booklet, outlining the most frequently asked questions by WA motorists, including the correct protocols of giving way to emergency vehicles.

There are more than 200,000 ambulance movements in WA each year, equating to 550 each day.
