WA premier rejects conservative MP's ideas

New conservative MP Aaron Stonehouse wants to legalise cannabis and e-cigarettes, allow Tasers for self-defence and abolish restrictions on trading hours for licensed venues, but the WA premier has shot down many of his ideas.

"The major parties in Western Australia seem to believe that if you smoke, drink, gamble, vape or buy your kids a happy meal that somehow makes you a bad person," the 26-year-old Liberal Democrat said.

But Premier Mark McGowan knocked back many of Mr Stonehouse's policies and reiterated he would not do backroom deals with any of the five conservative upper house members to push through the Labor government's legislation.
